What Can And Can’t Go In A Skip Bin

Using a skip is a convenient way to get rid of waste around the house or business, but you may wonder what you can and cannot put in them.

Whether you are having a clear out at home, renovating or have a build up of unwanted items you may have a mixture of different items from old furniture to damaged brick, concrete and wood and even hazardous waste.

By getting rid of all the old junk, you’ll be able to create more space for storage, furniture, and household items.

The types of waste that can be disposed of in landfills are strictly regulated. Some materials need to be handled carefully and need to be taken to a recycling center where they can be broken down into non-hazardous materials and repurposed.

Depending on where they operate, skip bin hire companies use different waste management sites. It is possible for each site to accept different types of materials, for example, some may be able to recycle chemicals, while others may not. In light of this, when researching skip bin hire companies, it is always best to check what waste is allowed in the skip.

What Can You Put In A Skip?

You can put a variety of materials in a skip, including fallen branches, leaves and soil when clearing out garden waste, furniture and appliances when clearing out your home and construction materials when tearing down a building.

If you have enough single item recyclable material to fill a skip, then we can take this away and get it recycled. Not only are you doing something good for the environment but you also get a discount on the skip hire.

The below are examples of the types of waste we collect in our skips.

Cheapa Waste Skips Is Unable to Dispose of The Following Types of Waste:

Asbestos

Asbestos is a hazardous waste that does not break down or biodegrade, it can travel long distances by air and get into soil and water contaminating the environment. Asbestos is not accepted in any of our skips. Please contact an approved asbestos remover to have your asbestos removed.

Wet Paint

Wet paint contains harmful chemicals that if not disposed of appropriately could seep into waterways and soil. Contact your local council to find out about your next chemical waste clearout to get your paint safely disposed of.

Chemicals

As with paint, any types of chemicals should be managed carefully and should not be put in a skip bin. Contact your local council to find out how to dispose of chemicals safely.

Gas Bottles

Gas bottles need to be recycled or refilled rather than being dumped in landfill, the reason being is they pose a fire hazard particularly when compacted. Escaping gas could be toxic and endanger people in the vicinity. Your local council can help with collection of gas bottles.

Car Tyres

Only some landfill sites allow tyres and there are limited recycling options, as such we are unable to accept tyres in our skips. Tyres are both toxic and a fire hazard so need to be managed carefully to not harm us or the environment.

Food Waste

Food waste should be disposed of in household or business bins and cannot be placed in a skip. Sutherland Shire council also subsidises composters and worm farms which will help reduce food waste. Contact your local council for more information on disposing of food waste.

Medical Waste
